Music goes on its own track, below the video, so it is independent of the clips: you can move it, trim it, and set its level without touching the picture.

It mixes with whatever sound the video already has. If you want the music alone, mute the clip's own audio.

How to add music to a video online

  1. 01

    Add your video

Drop the video onto the page.

  2. 02

    Add the audio file

Drop an MP3, WAV or M4A onto the page, or add it from the Audio panel. It lands on its own track.

  3. 03

    Position and level it

Drag the audio along the timeline to line it up, set the volume, and switch on fades so it doesn't start and stop abruptly.

  4. 04

    Export

The mix is rendered into the exported file.

Balancing music against speech

If the video has someone talking, music usually needs to sit well below it — start around a third of full volume and adjust while playing back. Each clip has its own volume control, so you can lift the speech instead of only lowering the music.

Fades matter more than they sound like they should. A music bed that stops dead at the last frame is the most noticeable thing in an otherwise clean edit.

Using only the music

To replace the original sound entirely, mute the video clip's audio and leave the music track playing. The video's own track is untouched on disk — muting only affects the export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add music to a video online for free?

Yes. Add your video, drop an audio file onto the page, set its level and export. No account and no watermark.

Which audio formats can I add?

MP3, WAV and M4A files work. What can be decoded ultimately depends on your browser's audio support.

Does the editor provide music tracks?

No. There is no built-in music library — you add your own audio file, and you are responsible for having the right to use it.
